We are sailing to Palua under light winds, so it is a slow go for sure. maybe
we will have skype in Palau as it is a republic nation under free association
with the US. They have 110 V and 60 hz power too, yea!!!!! And are on the US
postal service, which is very cool and we are excited to get there.

Out of Touch for now...

We had an electrical surge and we do not have a computer on board right now. We are hoping to get one sent to us soon, but for now we are in the dark.

I'll try to keep you posted. In the mean time, our email is down for at least two weeks, probably longer.

Thunderstorms and broken parts

The long trip to New Guinea started off with very fast speeds and big seas. Also with that was thunderstorms. The whisker pole snapped in one of those thunderstorms and we no longer have the ability to use the head sail. Progress is slow, but we are still on track. Should be in Kokopo PNG in two days.

Anchors aweigh!

Underway for a 400 mile trip to Kokopo in Papa New Guinea. winds are moderate from the southeast and rain squalls through the night. First night out, always the hardest.

Making good time, avg. speed 6.3 kts cutting through confused seas, or is that we who are confused?

All stop

At 1411 local the boat struck the reef while trying to transit out of the lagoon. Position:

08.08.11S
157.01.60E

Vessel remained on the reef for 3 minutes while it assessed if we could get off without incurring more damage. Reverse propeller at 2900 revolutions for less than one minute, no sign of hull damage.
Currently anchored inside the reef, damage appears to be only on the keel, will dive the boat for a better sounding later.
